WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?
CranioSacral Therapy is a light touch approach that can release tension deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.
This therapy was developed by osteopathic physician Dr. John E. Pledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University.
By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CranioSacral Therapy is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction including:
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central nervous System Disorders
- Chronic Fatigue
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Neuromuscular or Immune Disorders
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A SESSION?
A CranioSacral Therapy session takes place in a private quiet setting and generally lasts 1 hour. You remain fully clothed as you relax on a padded table. With carefully listening hands, and using a gentle touch, the therapist(s) will monitor the rhythm of the fluid that is flowing around your nervous system. They will locate the areas of weak fluid flow or tissue motion and trace those areas back to the original source of dysfunction. Light touch manual techniques will be used to release the problem areas and improve the function of your central nervous system. Sessions are generally deeply relaxing and restorative.
